MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will suspend for three months the enforcement of a memorandum mandating uniform temporary license plates, an official said yesterday.
LTO chief Edgar Galvante made the announcement following a meeting with car and motorcycle dealers on Thursday.
Dealers reportedly appealed to the LTO for more time to comply with the specifications for the production of the temporary license plates.
According to the memorandum, conduction stickers given to each vehicle shall be used as temporary license plate numbers.
It should comply with the sample layout given by the LTO, which will be printed on a reflective sturdy material in Arial Black font, “for uniformity and ease of visual recognition.”
The LTO memorandum, issued on Jan. 11, should have been effective Feb. 15.
The agency also reminded car owners that they are not allowed to drive their vehicles without its original receipt/certificate of registration.
The LTO gives a grace period of seven days for the transport of the vehicle from the manufacturer to the dealer to the client.
