MANILA, Philippines – The Presidential Task Force on Media Security has ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to investigate the reported harassment of a radio broadcaster by Davao del Sur Gov. Douglas Cagas.
In a statement, the task force said the police should also provide security to Jun Paneiro and his family.
People connected to the governor and some policemen allegedly went to 105.3 Radyo Kastigo and threatened to close the radio station if Paneiro is not turned over to them.
Cagas was reportedly irked by Paneiro’s critical reports about him.
“The PNP personnel who accompanied Cagas’ men were ordered to stand down or face the consequences of their action, which clearly indicates harassment,” the task force said.
Charges should be filed against anyone found to have violated the law, it added.
