MANILA, Philippines – At least two minors were killed in a fireworks factory explosion on Wednesday morning.
Bureau of Fire Protection Sr. Insp. Carlos Estipular said the explosion occurred at the pyrotechnics factory of AA Fireworks in Pulong Buhangin, Sta. Maria, Bulacan at around 9:10 a.m.
The explosion left nearby residences burned, two kids dead and seven others injured.
Estipular said the children were siblings.
According to a report from DZMM, the Philippine National Police said AA Fireworks’ business license expired last June.
In October, a series of explosions at a firecracker factory in Bocaue, Bulacan killed two people and injured 20 others.
President Rodrigo Duterte has more than once floated the idea of imposing a nationwide ban on fireworks similar to one enforced in Davao City but said he will need to consult the Cabinet first. — Rosette Adel
