Navy seizes P6-M smuggled sugar

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Navy personnel seized a cargo vessel loaded with more than 1,500 sacks of smuggled sugar worth P6 million off this city before midnight on Thursday.

Rear Admiral Jorge Amba, commander of Naval Forces Western Mindanao, said a team led by Lt. Reynyleo Ballesteros was patrolling the area when they chanced upon M/L Alkaswar, which came from Sandakan, Sabah.

Amba said the sacks of sugar were turned over to the Bureau of Customs after the crewmembers could not present any document of the shipment.
