MANILA, Philippines - Cavite Gov. Juanito Victor “Junvic” Remulla withdrew his certificate of candidacy for reelection to give way to his brother, Crispin “Boying” Remulla, a day before the deadline for the filing of certificates for substitute candidates.
Junvic, formerly spokesman for the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), went to the Cavite provincial elections office on Wednesday afternoon to withdraw his certificate of candidacy (COC), according to Commission on Elections regional director Juanito Icarro.
The governor was accompanied by his supporters and legal counsels when he appeared before provincial election supervisor Juanito Ravanza Jr.
“He gave no reason when he withdrew his COC. He has the right not to give any details,” Icarro told The STAR.
Boying filed his COC as a substitute candidate for the gubernatorial race. He was formerly the representative of Cavite’s sixth district. He ran but lost in the mayoral race in Tagaytay in the 2013 elections.
Boying will be facing Richard Libay, Gerbie Fereguito Berado and Roberto Gennale Bornal, all independent, in the gubernatorial race.
