CAMP B/GEN OSCAR M. FLORENDO, Philippines – Members of the Ilocos regional police office tasked to secure delegates in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Manila cleaned up the streets and surroundings in areas where they were assigned.
Region 1 police director Chief Superintendent Ericson Velasquez said the contingent laid down their truncheons and shields and took brooms and dustpans for Operation Linis.
Velasquez said his men cleaned the Ayala Car Park and the Pio del Pilar High School, both in Makati City, and Tramo in Pasay City.
“Our personnel ensured the areas were clean to show discipline, courtesy and respect to the proprietors,” Velasquez said in a statement.
He said the officers wanted to show the public that cleanliness is everybody’s concern.
Region 1 police deputy director for operations Senior Superintendent Marlou Chan said the cleanup aims to create awareness and understanding among the communities and the anti-APEC groups on how to become responsible citizens.
“This is our way of supporting the government‘s environmental advocacy and our response to the Philippine National Police’ core values – makadiyos, makabayan, makatao and makakalikasan,” Chan said.
