KORONADAL CITY, Philippines - A peasant high on drugs on Thursday shot dead his brother and sister-in-law and wounded his own son and a nephew in an attack that shook the peaceful Barangay Paraiso here to its core.
The suspect, Joselito Consumo, managed to escape when he sensed that responding barangay officials and volunteer watchmen were closing in.
Neighbors had told probers Consumo, a known drug dependent, first had a heated altercation with his brother, Romy, before shots rang.
Consumo also shot dead the victim’s spouse, Belen, when she tried to intervene, agitating him even more.
The suspect also opened fire on his own son, Jose, and nephew, JR, the son of the slain couple, wounding them both seriously.
Consumo escaped bringing with him his handgun which probers said is a loose firearm not covered by any license.
Relatives have confirmed Consumo, a farmer, is hooked to methamphetamine hydrochloride, most known as shabu.
He has also reportedly been peddling shabu occasionally whenever he runs out of money.
