SOUTH COTABATO, Philippines – Twenty-two residents of Tupi town in this province were rushed to different hospitals after eating cake and caramel candies during a party on Tuesday.
Emil Sumugaysay, municipal disaster risk reduction and management officer, said the victims complained of dizziness and abdominal pains after eating jelly roll slices and homemade caramel candies.
Some of the patients reportedly suffered vomiting and diarrhea.
Municipal sanitation officials collected samples of the cake and candies for laboratory examination.
A local radio station in Koronadal City said the incident was the second in the province since Sunday.
The report said nine residents of Barangay San Vicente in Banga town were also hospitalized after eating spoiled pastries served at a party.
