Village treasurer nabbed for drug trafficking in Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - A village treasurer was arrested Tuesday afternoon by anti-narcotics police personnel during a buy-bust operation here, according to security official.

Police Superintendent Nonito Asdai, Police Station 6 chief, identified the suspect as Jonah Jubaira, treasurer of Barangay Tugbungan.

Jubaira was arrested at his residence in Barangay Tugbungan by operatives of the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task force (CAIDSOTF).

The apprehending police team recovered from the suspect at least seven sachets of suspected shabu, marked money, four pieces of aluminum foil and a .38 caliber revolver with 4 live ammunition.

The suspect was temporarily detained at the Tetuan Police Station 6 pending the filing of the appropriate charges in court.

Barangay Tugbungan chairman Agustin Graciano Jr. told a local radio here that he is planning to conduct random drug tests in all his village personnel, watchmen and even members of the village council to save their reputation following the arrest of his treasurer.
