NPA leader nabbed in Davao

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – A leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Mindanao was arrested in Davao del Norte on Wednesday.

Porferio Tuna, with aliases of Pinot, Ampong, Ricky and Ka Simon, was arrested by joint police and military operatives in Barangay La Filipina in Tagum City, Chief Superintendent Wendy Rosario, Southern Mindanao regional police director, said on Thursday.

Tuna’s arrest was based on a warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court 11 Branch 3 in Nabunturan, Compostela Valley for kidnapping and serious illegal detention.

Rosario said a murder case was also filed against Tuna at RTC 11. 

In his report to Criminal Investigation and Detection Group director Chief Superintendent Victor Deona, Senior Superintendent Joel Pernito, CIDG Davao chief, said Tuna is the deputy secretary general and spokesman for the NPA in the Southeastern Mindanao Region.
