BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – At least 151 kilos of dog meat were seized in a raid on four restaurants here on Thursday.
Members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, National Meat Inspection Service, Baguio City veterinary office and animal rights groups swooped down on the restaurants along Jacinto and Lakandula streets, said CIDG-North and Central Luzon chief Senior Superintendent Jimmy Catanes.
Republic Act 10536 or the Meat Inspection Act bans dog meat trade.
Catanes said the restaurant owners would face charges if they are caught selling dog meat again.
The illegal dog meat trade in Baguio and Benguet is estimated at millions of pesos.
