ILOILO CITY, Philippines – A taxi driver was stabbed dead by robbers who took his earnings in Pavia, Iloilo yesterday morning.
Jonathan Causing, 47, was found bloodied near his cab at around 3:30 a.m. by resident Nelson Bacomo in Barangay Tigum.
Responding police officers rushed Causing to the West Visayas State University Medical Center in this city where he was declared dead on arrival.
The victim suffered several stab wounds in the chest and arms.
Witnesses told probers they saw three men running away from the crime scene toward a nearby ricefield.
Investigators recovered a knife in the back seat of the taxi and an icepick on the ground near the victim’s body.
Causing’s death came a week after another taxi driver was attacked and wounded by robbers in Mandurriao district.
Two days later, police arrested two of the suspects who robbed and stabbed Lito Ombrero on Q. Abeto street.
The suspects were identified as Anastacio Almarines Jr., 19, and Aries Abadoya, 25, according to Chief Inspector Kitt Flora, Mandurriao police chief.
Ombrero identified Almarines through the rogue’s gallery of the local police.
