Barangay officials said Macarimbang voluntarily turned himself in after sensing that armed community watchmen were ready to pounce on him if he would refuse to yield.

Three of the five escapees, Orak Makalay, Aquino Mento and Tampakan Ankilino, were intercepted by policemen at past 3:00 a.m. Wednesday while trying to get through a security roadblock at the Esteros District south of Cotabato City.

Jail Warden Macapagal Blao told The STAR they are still trying to locate the whereabouts of the fifth escapee, Fahad Sangki, with the help of the police.

The five inmates escaped from their cell by sawing off the protective metal grills of its window using hacksaw blades apparently smuggled in by visiting relatives.
