NPA liaison officer nabbed in Davao City

DAVAO CITY, Philippines  – A New People’s Army (NPA) liaison officer was arrested at a checkpoint in Barangay Sirawan, Toril District in this city yesterday.

Officials said John Omega Nebris, alias Part, is the NPA liaison for the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee. Seized from him were a caliber .45 pistol, a fragmentation grenade, three mobile phones, 13 SIM cards and P5,000 cash.

Meanwhile, Armed Forces Eastern Mindanao Command public affairs chief Alberto Caber said the NPA set fire to seven pieces of construction equipment in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur yesterday night.

Caber also said the equipment was to be used for a road widening project, adding that the rebels may have extorted money from the contractors.

On Aug. 19, rebels also ransacked the house and store of Barangay Lamanan chairman Antonio Albaran in Calinan District, Davao City. – With Alexis Romero
