Coast Guard personnel rescues ‘pawikan’

MANILA, Philippines – A personnel of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Saturday saved a sea turtle or “pawikan” believed to be carried by the monsoon around the Manila Bay area.

The sea turtle measuring about three-foot was recovered at Pier 13, Port Area by a personnel of Coast Guard vessel AE 46.

PCG spokesperson Commander Armand Balilo added that the sea turtle was recovered beside the Coast Guard vessel AE 46 around 12 noon, Saturday.

The agency brought the endangered species at the Ninoy Aquino Park and Wildlife Center in Quezon City to have it checked.

The turnover will allow the experts check if the sea turtle is ailing or obtained wounds. This process is necessary before they carry out its disposition and decide whether it needs to be released.

Another sea turtle was also caught in Marabut, Samar last week.
