ZAMBOANGA CITY - A Mindanao lawmaker who is a staunch critic of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) disagreed to the claims of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) that passage of the controversial measure will benefit the next administration.
Government chief negotiator Prof. Miriam Coronel-Ferrer in a statement remained firm that passing the BBL under the present administration would give a best shot at achieving peace in Mindanao.
She said letting the next administration push for the passage of the proposed BBL would be pointless.
“(Congress) can either pass this law or they can choose to throw away all the time, money and goodwill already spent by just passing it on to the next Congress,” Ferrer said in a statement.
She said leaving the BBL undone will be unfavorable to the next administration.
However, Zamboanga City Rep. Celso Lobregat, an advocate of fair and just BBL thought otherwise.
“Of course if you pass a BBL that is constitutional, that is just, that is fair, that is acceptable and feasible, it will be beneficial not only to Bangsamoro area but the whole of Mindanao and the whole of the Philippines,” Lobregat said.
He said allowing the passage of BBL as it is will be detrimental to the country.
