BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – An American and his Filipina wife were found dead in a well in Murcia town, Negros Occidental Monday.
The remains of Kevin Fleischauer, 58, and his wife Lolly, 60, were recovered near their home in Barangay Blumentritt.
Police have arrested four farm workers tagged in the killing of the couple.
Randy Nuñez, 25; Randy Perez, 19; Raymart Medel, 18, and his 17-year-old brother were arrested in Sagay City in the same province, according to Chief Inspector Eduardo Corpuz, city police chief.
Corpuz said the suspects admitted to killing the Fleischauers and dumping their bodies into the well on Aug. 4.
The suspects said they were working for the couple, whom they said gave them low pay.
Corpuz said the suspects might have opted to kill the couple after being caught in the act of robbery.
He said Nuñez and the Medel brothers were arrested at 9 p.m. on Monday, while Perez was arrested yesterday morning.
Recovered from the suspects were P15,000 in cash, $461, assorted jewelry, two computer laptops, five cell phones and a charger, an MP3 player, a 9mm pistol with magazine and bullets and a wallet.
The suspects were turned over to the Murcia municipal police for proper disposition.
Murcia police chief Senior Inspector Lawrence Gerald Bathan said police officers went to the couple’s house to investigate a robbery incident.
Bathan said the officers found members of a religious group led by Nelson Cunana, who were also looking for the couple, at the Fleischauer’s home.
Police said the couple had been missing for a week.
After searching the compound, the officers and church members found Kevin’s decomposing body in the well at around 8 a.m.
Eight hours later, they retrieved Lolly’s body from the same well.
Bathan said the main door of the house was destroyed while the bedroom was open when they arrived in the area. The couple’s car was in the garage.
