ILOILO CITY, Philippines – Classes at all levels in public and private schools in this city were suspended yesterday due to heavy rains brought by the typhoon-enhanced southwest monsoon.
Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa III and city school division officer-in-charge Clarissa Zamora announced the suspension of classes before noon.
Weather forecasters said Typhoon Hanna has weakened and was expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday.
Hanna will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon as it heads toward Taiwan and China.
Although no storm warning signal was hoisted in the region, the Philippine Coast Guard-Iloilo Station cancelled sea travel to and from Iloilo and Bacolod City yesterday morning.
Lt. Edison Diaz, PCG-Iloilo station chief, said he would lift the order as soon as the weather returns to normal.
