Court worker, nephew fall in La Union drug operation

Shabu is known as the poor man's cocaine in the Philippines.

MANILA, Philippines - Authorities nabbed a court employee and his nephew during a buy-bust operation in La Union, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said on Tuesday.

PDEA chief Arturo Cacdac Jr. identified the suspects as Ronnnie Costales, 29, an employee of the Municipal Trial Court of Bauang, La Union and his nephew, Kenneth Costales, 19, both residents of Barangay Bacuit Norte, Bauang, La Union.

Belated reports said that last March 21, around 1:00 p.m., combined operatives of PDEA Regional Office 1 (RO1) and Bauang police conducted a sting operation which resulted the suspects' arrest after they sold four plastic sachets of suspected shabu to a poseur-buyer.

Operatives also seized from the Costales were a vehicle and the P1,000 bill used as buy-bust money.

The suspects, who are temporarily detained at the PDEA RO1 detention cell, will be facing illegal drug raps.
