Parents to sue mayor, village chief for allowing fair in school

BAYAMBANG, Pangasinan, Philippines – A group of parents is set to file charges against the mayor and a barangay captain of this town for allowing the operation of a fair in the school compound.

Filipinas Alcantara, president of Parents Teachers Association of Bayambang Central School, said Mayor Ricardo Camacho and Avelino Junio of Barangay Magsaysay granted a business permit to Marieta Lo to put up the fair by demolishing a portion of the school fence.

“Is the peryahan more important than studies of the pupils?” Alcantara asked.

Alcantara also accused Junio of berating her in public when she protested the demolition of the fence. She said their group has been helping in the renovation of the school since last year as they had been protesting its relocation.

The STAR obtained a copy of the resolution passed by the municipal council on Feb. 23, authorizing Camacho to grant permits to Lo for the 401st Foundation Day and  town fiesta from March 2 to April 30.

Camacho issued the permit on March 2.
