KORONADAL CITY, Philippines– A police officer was hailed for returning an extra P100,000 that a teller mistakenly gave him when he encashed a check at a government bank here.
In an e-mail to The STAR, Inspector Rafael Banggay said he was never tempted to keep the money.
Banggay, who was assigned at the regional command based in General Santos City, last week encashed a check amounting to P100,000 at a branch of the Land Bank of the Philippines here. The teller gave him P200,000.
The police officer did not notice the mistake until after he took some bills from the envelope to pay for the fuel he bought from a gasoline station here.
Banggay immediately returned to the bank to hand over the money.
Chief Superintendent Lester Camba, director of the Central Mindanao police command, presented Banggay with a special citation award during last Monday’s flag ceremony.
