MANILA, Philippines - The Office of the Ombudsman has ordered Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog to file his counter-affidavit on allegations that he has unexplained wealth.
In an order dated Nov. 28, 2014, a copy of which was received yesterday by former Iloilo provincial administrator Manuel Mejorada, Mabilog’s accuser, newly appointed Deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas Paul Elmer Clemente gave Mabilog 10 days to refute allegations that he acquired millions of pesos in properties that were “manifestly disproportionate” to his income.
In a complaint filed on Sept. 11, 2014, Mejorada said Mabilog put up companies that operate doughnut stalls in public transport terminals, public markets and sidewalks. He said Mabilog also owns and operates a commercial building.
Mejorada said he based his complaint on Mabilog’s 2013 statement of assets, liabilities and net worth.
Aside from violation of Section 8 of Republic Act 3019 on unexplained wealth, Mabilog also faces charges for perjury, dishonesty and grave misconduct.
