3 money counterfeiters nabbed in Malaybalay bust

MANILA, Philippines - Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection and Group (CIDG) arrested three suspected currency counterfeiters in Malaybalay City over the weekend.

CIDG chief Director Benjamin Magalong said their operatives in Northern Mindanao, under Superintendent Alexander Tagum, nabbed Robinson Berialor and two of his accomplices during an operation at Purok 3, Barangay Kalasungay, Malabalay City last November 22.

Magalong said CIDG operatives seized seven pieces of counterfeit US dollars, 154 pieces of fake 1000 Philippine peso bills, 270 pieces of counterfeit 500 Philippine peso notes, 102 pieces of fake 20 Philippine peso notes, 14 sheets of uncut  500 Philippine peso bills, and a personal computer.

The arrest was implemented by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Isobel Barroso of Regional Trial Court, Branch 8, Malaybalay City,Magalong said.

The suspects are now under the custody of the CIDG while  criminal charges for violations of Forging Treasury or Bank Notes (Article 166 of the Revised Penal Code), llegal Possession and Use of False Treasury or Bank Notes and Other Instruments of Credit (Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code)  and  Manufacturing and Possession of Instruments or Implements for Falsification (Article 176 of the RPC) are being prepared for filing in court.
