KIDAPAWAN CITY, Philippines – Local officials, led by Mayor Joseph Evangelista, on Friday voluntarily underwent drug tests to show that none of them are hooked on shabu or marijuana.
Members of the city council also took similar tests in support of the city government’s campaign against illegal drugs.
“This is to show that we have the moral ascendancy to wage a campaign against illegal drugs because we are clean and are not drug dependents,” Evangelista said.
None of the local officials tested positive for illegal drugs. The tests were conducted by personnel of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Evangelista said the move shows that the city government is serious in its campaign against illegal drugs.
“We will also conduct random drug tests for the city workers,” he said, adding the city government will not announce the schedule for the drug tests.
