MANILA, Philippines - Two mild quakes hit Surigao del Norte yesterday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The tremors – measuring magnitudes 2.2 and 3.3 – occurred at 10:42 a.m. and 11:25 a.m., respectively.
Phivolcs said the epicenter of the magnitude 2.2-quake was located seven kilometers northeast of Surigao City, where it was felt at Intensity 2.
The second tremor was located eight kilometers northwest of the city where it was felt at Intensity 3.
Phivolcs said minor quakes, ranging from magnitudes 2.2 and 4.8, were also recorded in some parts of the Visayas and Mindanao yesterday but these were unfelt.
The agency said quakes of such magnitudes were not expected to cause damage or aftershocks.
