P10-M infra projects to boost Albay’s economy

MANILA, Philippines - At least P10.4-million worth of infrastructure projects will be implemented in Albay province to boost its economy, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) said yesterday.

Romulo Britanico, provincial agrarian reform program officer, said the projects, funded under the grassroots participatory budgeting (GPB), include the construction of a 100-meter spillway in the villages of Aurora and White Deer in Jovellar town; a 1.5-kilometer Marayag-San Isidro farm-to-market road in Libon, and a 35- meter concrete footbridge in Sitio Lagsingan, Rapu-Rapu.

Britanico said DAR would also implement a coconut farming and processing system in Guinobatan.

“Preparations for these projects are being undertaken by DAR-Albay following the signing of a memorandum of agreement with municipal mayors last Sept. 10,” he said, adding the projects will benefit 10,400 farmers, 527 of them are agrarian reform beneficiaries.

The GPB was adopted to identify programs and projects that would help the country’s poorest cities and municipalities.
