CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga, Philippines – Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) president and chief executive officer Victor Jose Luciano said yesterday that he will turn his post over to President Aquino’s cousin on Oct. 6.
Luciano said after giving the post to Egmidio Tanjuatco Jr., he would move to the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) as one of its directors.
He said he was not given any reason why he was being replaced. He quoted a remark made to him last week by Interior and Local Government Secetary Mar Roxas that he had “accomplished” his “mission.”
“I am just a soldier. I obey orders,” said Luciano, who served the CIAC for the past eight years.
He described Tanjuatco’s takeover of CIAC as timely, noting that his successor can better handle the issue between the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) and the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) regarding the jurisdiction of the aviation complex here.
The CIAC used to be BCDA’s implementing arm in this freeport, spread over some 4,500 hectares of land owned by the BCDA.
Two years ago, Aquino placed CIAC under the DOTC, which is now claiming ownership of the 2,300-hectare aviation area of the freeport.
