MANILA, Philippines - One was killed while at least five others were injured after a wayward 14-wheeler truck plowed through eight vehicles on the southbound lane of C-5 road in Taguig City on Monday.
Reports said the unidentified truck driver and a helper left the 14-wheeler truck, loaded with sand, after it malfunctioned while at the sloping portion of the road near a shopping mall around 6 a.m.
The report said that the stalled truck (UNE-539), owned by the Treasure Rock Movers, suddenly slid downward and slammed to several oncoming vehicles, including two trucks three taxicabs and three private cars.
A truck driver, only identified as Eboy, was killed after being pinned by one of the trucks hit by the wayward vehicle,.
Witnesses said another truck, loaded with glass panels, also caught fire after being rammed by the wayward truck.
The truck only stopped after it tilted and hit a concrete wall, reports added.
The accident caused heavy traffic in the area, stranding several commuters.
