MANILA, Philippines - A farmer from Leyte recently rejected by a woman he was courting claimed the jackpot in the 6/45 Megalotto drawn on July 14, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) announced yesterday.
Jose Ferdinand Rojas II, PCSO acting chairman, said the farmer hit the six-digit winning combination, 07-09-19-24-35-43, which has a total jackpot prize of P14,634,376.
Roxas said the winner, who has been playing lotto for nine years, bet P80 for the randomly picked numbers.
The farmer told Roxas that the woman he was courting rejected him because he was poor and could not support a family.
Apart from buying a house and lot and sending his siblings to school, the winner plans to use part of his winnings to rebuild a church in their community damaged by Typhoon Yolanda, buy farmlands and put up his own business.
