LINGAYEN, Philippines – Panga-sinan Gov. Amado Espino Jr. recently led the awarding of financial assistance totaling P3.46 million (for the first semester of school year 2014-2015) to 433 scholars of the provincial government.
Each scholar gets P8,000 in financial assistance per semester, or P16,000 per academic year.
“There is hope in life. You are blessed because you have the chance to pursue your dream,†Espino told the scholars.
At present, the province has 386 Provincial Scholarship Fund Board scholars, 33 National Commission on Indigenous Peoples scholars, and 14 Federation of Pangasinan Muslim Association scholars.
The province also has scholars in nine campuses of the Pangasinan State University and at the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
Espino said the scholarship program might eventually be expanded to cover the Alternative Learning System in remote towns like Infanta and Umingan.
More than 4,000 scholars who had availed themselves of financial assistance for college education from the provincial government since Espino became governor in 2007 are now successful in their chosen careers.
