9 Negros LGUs to get P8.5-B Yolanda housing aid

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – The National Housing Authority (NHA) has allocated P8.5 billion to build 29,650 houses in five cities and four towns in Negros Occidental affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda.

Architect Susan Nonato, head of the NHA project implementation team for Negros and Cebu, said the nine local government units (LGUs) will provide the land where the houses will be built, while the NHA will take charge of the construction materials.

Each housing unit is allotted P290,000, according to Nonato who briefed Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and mayors of the nine LGUs about the project at the provincial capitol on Monday.

The nine LGUs are Cadiz City, 8,742 housing units; Sagay City, 7,850; Manapla, 2,964; Escalante City, 2,018; Victorias City, 2,321; E.B. Magalona, 1,168; Silay City, 1,992; Calatrava, 1,138; and Toboso, 1,457.

Nonato said the beneficiaries have been identified through the data provided the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the housing department of each LGU and evaluated by the NHA.

The housing project is targeted for completion before 2016.
