CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – The Cagayan Electric Power and Light Co. Inc. (Cepalco) has started to implement four-hour rotating blackouts within its franchise area as the power crisis in Mindanao continues to worsen.
Marilyn Chavez, senior manager for Cepalco’s customer and community relations department, has issued a notice of revised load shedding schedule and groupings from May 1 to 6, showing that the power utility has stretched the rotational outages from three to four hours.
Chavez said Cepalco has to resort to rotating blackouts due to the continuing power supply curtailment implemented by the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines.
Cepalco runs two renewable energy plants – a solar plant, and hydro and biomass-fired energy project.
