LPA to bring rains in EV, Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines - Rains will persist over Eastern Visayas and Mindanao in the next few days as a low-pressure area (LPA) moved closer to the country yesterday, the state weather bureau said.

The LPA was spotted at 470 kilometers east of Surigao City as of 4 a.m. yesterday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

“This weather system will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas and Mindanao. Residents are advised to take all the necessary precautionary measures,” it said.

PAGASA said the LPA was not expected to intensify into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours.

The LPA would be locally named “Caloy” once it develops into a tropical depression.

PAGASA said the disturbance was forecast to make landfall between Northern Mindanao and Southern Visayas this weekend.
