DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Region 1 yesterday warned the public against consuming shellfish taken from the coastal waters of Bolinao and Anda towns in Pangasinan, as samples gathered there were found positive for red tide toxin.
BFAR regional director Nestor Domenden said this was based on the advisory under Shellfish Bulletin No. 06 series of 2014.
Domenden urged the consuming public not to eat shellfish, shrimps and crabs harvested from the waters of Anda and Bolinao “until further notice.â€
As a precautionary measure, he said concerned local government units are advised to require market inspectors, quarantine officers, and administrators to demand auxiliary invoice or clearance from transporters and dealers of fish and seashells from other provinces or towns. – Eva Visperas, Czeriza Valencia
