ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Fishermen rescued an injured dolphin in the waters off Dumanguilas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur on Thursday.
The Bottlenose dolphin was spotted drifting in the waters off Sitio Asinan in Margosatubig town, said Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, spokesperson for the Police Regional Office 9.
A rescue team from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) helped fishermen bring the wounded mammal to the wharf for treatment.
The dolphin was found to have injuries in its belly and forehead, which authorities believed were caused by a propeller blade.
The BFAR said they would release the dolphin as soon as it is in stable condition.
