Cops get leads in church blast probe

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines   â€“ Authorities have leads on the identities of those behind the grenade explosion at a church that left five people wounded in this city on Sunday, an official said yesterday.

“We have leads already on the identities of the suspects in that senseless attack,” said Teodyver Arquiza, chairman of Barangay Talon-Talon.

Arquiza said that based on their shared intelligence information with police investigators, the attack was merely meant to sow fear among the residents.

He said the attackers were members of a crime syndicate.

Arquiza refused to reveal the names of the attackers and their syndicate pending their arrest.

A group of senior citizens was having a meeting at the old San Isidro Labrador church in Purok 2 when two motorcycle-riding men lobbed a grenade at them.

The five victims, including a retired school supervisor, were brought to the hospital for treatment of minor wounds.
