Non-stop rains death toll in Mindanao rises to 26

MANILA, Philippines - The death toll in the flooding and landslides in several parts of Mindanao has increased to 26, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Thursday.

In its latest report, the NDRRMC said a total of 36 persons were injured while 11 missing in regions 9, 10, 11 and Caraga.

The NDRRMC said that the bad weather in the areas affected more than 71,000 families or over 339,000 individuals  in 62 municipalities in 14 provinces.

Of the total affected, more than 42,000 families or 206,000 persons were displaced and stayed in 225 evacuation centers, the state disaster response agency added.

Meanwhile, the non-stop rains due to a low pressure area in the regions have stranded a total of 247 passengers in ports, the NDRRMC said.

The NDRRMC said the flashfloods and landslides damaged more than 1,000 houses, 239 of which was totally destroyed.

Eleven bridges, 11 roads and six government buildings were damaged in Regions 10, 11 and Caraga.

A total of 10,903 hectares of crops were damaged in Regions 11 and Caraga, the NDRRMC said.
