TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – A retired Army soldier, who won a barangay council seat in the recent elections, was gunned down while inspecting streetlights for the celebration of the midnight mass in Naguilian, Isabela on Christmas Eve.
Chief Inspector Ronnie Naira, Naguilian police chief, said councilman Rolando Viloria, 52, was with Surcoc village chairman Boy Collado when the gunman approached and shot him with a .45-caliber pistol and then fled aboard a motorcycle.
Viloria died while being rushed to a private hospital in nearby Ilagan City.
Police were still looking into all possible angles in the killing.
