CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines - – Motorcycle-riding armed men shot dead a chief of a village in Cavite yesterday morning, while two newly elected barangay officials of Ilocos Norte were killed in the town of Solsona Monday night.
Danilo Monton of Barangay Bacao 2, General Trias, was driving home when two armed men ambushed him at about 8 a.m. in Barangay Toclong in Kawit, according to Cavite police director Senior Superintendent Joselito Esquivel.
Monton was supposed to be in his last term as barangay chairman after he won the barangayelections in October.
Police have yet to determine if the killing was politically-related.
Meanwhile, newly-elected village chairman Edgar Paraiso and councilman Rogel Baguio were killed by an unidentified gunman while having dinner in Solsona town in Ilocos Norte, Monday night.
Paraiso and Baguio were declared dead on arrival at the Dingras District Hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Paraiso’s eight-year-old son was wounded in the attack that occurred at the back of Paraiso’s store in Barangay Mariquet. – Ed Amoroso, Artemio Dumlao, Charlie Lagasca, Raymund Catindig, Teddy Molina
