NPA rebels raid construction site in Zamboanga del Norte

ZAMBOANGA CITY - Suspected to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA) raided a construction site in Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte on Tuesday night and torched two mechanical earth movers and a jeep worth P50.3-million.

Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, spokesman of Police Regional Office 9 (PRO), said the 20 rebels, including four amazons, raided the construction site in Sitio Gutay, Barangay Titik at about 4 p.m. and harassed employees of the ESR Construction Supply and Department of Public works and Highway (DPWH).

Huesca said the armed men herded the workers in one corner and torched two bulldozers and a backhoe of the ESR Construction Supply owned by Edmario S. Revero, and a Willis jeep owned by the DPWH.

Engr. Cris Rodrigo Cuizon of ESR Construction and Arnold Mocorro Mantiza immediately reported the incident to the police after the rebels left the site.

Policemen launched pursuit operations, but failed to catch up on the rebels.
