MANILA, Philippines - Five days before the barangay polls, the Philippine National Police on Wednesday reported that authorities have apprehended a total of 471 persons in connection with the Commission on Elections gun ban.
Police Senior Superintendent Wilben Mayor, spokesperson of the PNP chief, said the number of over 400 violators has been accounted for since the gun ban started last Sept.28.
Of the total violators, five were policemen, four were soldiers, and 18 security guards, Mayor said.
Mayor said that police also confiscated a total of 380 various types of firearms.
The items also include 64 grenades and 221 different explosive devices, Mayor said.
Authorities also seized a total of 2,824 assorted ammunition.
The nationwide-gun ban will last until Nov. 12. - Dennis Carcamo
