MANILA, Philippines - More than 500,000 people have expressed their intention to run in the upcoming barangay poll on Oct. 28, the Commission on Elections said on Wednesday.
In her official Twitter account, Commissioner Grace Padaca said a total of 524,870 persons have already filed their certificates of candidacy before the poll body last Oct. 11, 12 and 14.
Of the figure, around 57,674 COCs for barangay captain posts have been filed before the Comelec offices all over the country while a total of 467,196 COCs for barangay kagawad posts.
Based on the Comelec calendar for the Barangay elections, the filing of the COCs begins Oct. 15 and ends on Oct. 17.
