MANILA, Philippines - On its almost third week of implementation, the ongoing gun ban by the Commission on Elections for the upcoming barangay poll has netted a total of 179 violators, the Philippine National Police said on Tuesday.
Of the figure, the PNP said majority of the apprehended gun ban violators were civilians, numbering around 166.
Authorities also nabbed three policemen, a member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, a government official, and eight security guards, the PNP added.
The PNP reported that law enforcers seized around 145 assorted firearms and 1,234 different types of ammunition.
The gun ban has started last Sept. 28, the beginning of the election period for the Oct. 28 barangay poll. It would be implemented until Nov. 12.
