BASEY, Samar , Philippines – This agricultural town, which owns the distinction of having weaved the world’s longest mat, ended yesterday its 111th annual fiesta, coinciding with the 422nd year of consecration to its patron saint, Michael the Archangel.
In last Friday’s grand parade, different groups performed a yearly dance showcasing the two main sources of livelihood of Basaynons, bamboo and mat weaving, said Mayor Igmedio Ponferrada.
