MANILA, Philippines - A gunman shot dead an information officer of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Cebu City.
PDEA director general Arturo Cacdac Jr. said that PDEA Information Officer 3 Jesus Tabanao was gunned down by the unidentified assailant
past midnight of Sept.15 in Barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City.
"He (Tabanao) stopped his vehicle, a white Mitsubishi Strada pick-up truck (YFY- 911) with hazard lights on, in front of a spa along Escario Street, Barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City, at around 12:40 a.m.
"He alighted from the vehicle and proceeded to the rear of his pick-up truck. Then suddenly, an unidentified gun-wielding man got off from a motorcycle in the opposite lane, approached Tabanao and shot him in the back several times, killing him instantly,†Cacdac said.
The assailant immediately fled on board a motorcycle toward the southern part of the city, Cacdac said.
"We are not discounting the possibility that the ambush is likely work-related. A follow-up investigation is in progress, to identify the perpetrator who, at that time, was wearing a helmet,†he added.
Police recovered nine shells of caliber 9mm from the crime scene.
