2 suspected Abu Sayyaf members fall in Sulu

ZAMBOANGA CITY - Marines captured on Friday two suspected Abu Sayyaf Group members in Patikul, Sulu, a military official said Saturday.

The captured suspects were identified as Salih Madjam alias Undag Dami and his brother Kinang alias Tinnam Dami.

Authorities believe that the two siblings belong to the group of Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Juhurim Hussein.

Col. Jose Joriel Cenabre, commander of Joint Task Force Sulu and 2nd Marine Brigade, said Hussein’s group is responsible for the series of kidnappings in Sulu.

Cenabre said elements of the 11th Special Operations Platoon led by 2Lt. Michael Loon under the Marine Battalion Landing Team 11 (MBLT) caught the suspects at around 6:30 a.m. in the vicinity of Barangay Pansul.

“The suspects were surprised as the troops maneuvered and cornered them,” Cenabre said.

The Marines recovered from the captured militants an M1 Garand rifle and 10 cartridges of ammunitions.
