TUGUEGARAO CITY , Philippines – To help monitor the possible occurrence of floods, at least 16 automatic rain gauge sensors and water level monitoring systems have been installed in various flood-prone areas in Isabela province.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), which provided the devices, said these would help local governments monitor the amount of rainfall in their respective areas, especially those experiencing frequent flooding.
Sancho Mabborang, DOST assistant director for Cagayan Valley, said the equipment would enable local officials to alert or warn their constituents of possible flooding and landslides, giving them ample time to evacuate to safer grounds.
The devices are installed in major and interior bridges in the towns of Jones, Tumauini, Delfin Albano, Gamu, Mallig, Naguilian, Alicia, Roxas, Aurora and San Pablo as well as in Cauayan City, Santiago City and this capital.
Mabborang said similar devices were also installed across the region – 19 in Cagayan, 13 in Nueva Vizcaya, and five in Quirino.
