Suspected rebels kill CamSur village chief

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels shot dead a barangay chairman in San Fernando, Camarines Sur last Sunday night, police said.

Probers said Roger Atacador, 59, a retired police officer and head of Rizal village, was presiding over a barangay council meeting at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday when unidentified men barged in and shot him in the head and face, and then casually walked away.

Atacador was a former police chief of Iriga City and Cabusao town. – Celso Amo, Francis Elevado
