MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that provinces in Central Luzon may continue to experience heavy rains until Monday evening while yellow rainfall alert has been issued for Metro Manila and other areas.
Esperanza Cayanan, officer-in-charge of the PAGASA National Capital Region, stressed during a televised press briefing that there is a huge possibility that Central Luzon may experience heavy rains from afternoon to evening.
"Anything can happen kasi po kapag gabi, medyo humahataw po 'yung ulan natin," she noted.
To recall, it was Sunday evening when non-stop heavy rains poured down over Metro Manila and nearby provinces, prompting PAGASA to issue a red rainfall warning.
As of 3:15 p.m., the weather bureau has issued a yellow rainfall warning for the provinces in Central Luzon as well as Metro Manila and other areas.
"Moderate to heavy rainfall is affecting Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Rizal, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Quezon and Occidental Mindoro and most likely to continue for the next 3hrs," PAGASA said in an update.
The agency warned that flooding is also expected in low-lying areas.
PAGASA has said that the southwest monsoon is affecting the Philippines as it is being enhanced by Tropical Storm "Maring," which remains stationary in the northeastern waters of the country.
As of this posting, a large part of Cavite, Laguna and Bulacan provinces remain submerged in deep floods.
Several areas in Metro Manila were also flooded due to continuous torrential rains spawned by the southwest monsoon enhanced by the storm.
