TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – The Cordillera police office yesterday corrected reports that a police officer wounded in last week’s rebel attack in Tadian town, Mt. Province had died.
In a letter to The STAR, Superintendent Davy Vicente Limmong said Police Officer 1 Junette Ngalawen is alive and recuperating at the Pines Doctor’s Hospital in Baguio City.
Limmong said a health officer visited Ngalawen at the hospital on July 2 and reported that she is in a stable condition.
In a report titled “Another cop trainee in NPA ambush dies,†which appeared on The STAR the other day, Ngalawen was said to have died in a hospital in Bontoc on Tuesday.
Limmong said the report shocked the family of Ngalawen.
Mt. Province Gov. Leonard Mayaen announced Ngalawen’s supposed death in a rally in Bontoc last Tuesday.
Mayaen said he got the information from Rep. Maximo Dalog.
The attack, perpetrated by the New People’s Army guerrillas left one officer dead and nine others wounded, including Ngalawen.
